Breast Cancer Awareness is not Breast Cancer Prevention

February 1, 2020

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide and is the most aggressive cancer affecting the global female population. Today, 1-in-8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.  In the 1970s that statistic was 1-in-11.  Studies are showing that it will soon be 1-in-7.  Men, are not safe either as there are thousands of documented cases of men with breast cancer each year.  Understanding these statistics, simply being aware of breast cancer and its risks once a year (usually October) isn’t enough.  We must begin to understand now how to lower our risk for breast cancer.  While this may seem difficult, there are some simple steps you can implement to begin to work to lower your risk.

First, wear better bras.  Bras with underwire choke off our lymph (the majority of which is in our armpits), which not only affects our lymphatic system itself (the network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials), but also affects breast health.  If you’re wearing a bra you can’t wait to get off at night, that’s a sure sign it’s time to upgrade to a better bra.  Most bras are ill-fitting (mostly too tight) and push our body into shapes and states that aren’t natural for daily wear.  Coobie Bras are a beloved brand among women – with styles generally fitting sizes 28A to 46E. I can confidently say these bras are for nearly everyone! Usually, once ladies start wearing their Coobie bras, their other bras quickly fall by the wayside.  They are inexpensive (~$20!), comfortable and beautiful!  If you’re interested in checking them out, just let me know or check out my online store at RenewHolisticWellness.shop.  You won’t be disappointed!

Next, consider your deodorant and its ingredients.  It’s no secret that many popular brands of deodorant contain aluminum, which has not only been linked to an increased risk for breast cancer, but also Alzheimer’s.  Not only do deodorants contain aluminum, but also synthetic fragrances and more that interfere with breast health and increase risk for breast cancer.  There are a variety of better deodorant options on the market and I also offer a wonderful option with just a few ingredients and essential oil scent.  We suggest you consider a deodorant that does not contain baking soda, which tends to irritate the delicate skin in the armpit.  It’s important to note that when you switch deodorants to a healthier option, there is a detox.  Many people will think the deodorant isn’t working, when in reality, it’s allowing the build-up of aluminum and trapped bacteria to escape.  During this detox timeframe, I suggest carrying your new deodorant with you and using it throughout the day to help until the detox is over.

Third, is learn your risk.  When we turn 40 it’s recommended we get a mammogram (some insurance carriers even make us wait until age 50 these days).  The mammogram will locate a problem, if there is one, but the reality is, that’s not enough information.  You need to understand your RISK so you can take control of your health and work to lower it.  Thermography has various uses and it’s most common is to assess risk for breast cancer.  A baseline thermography scan can be established as early as age 20 and can be a tool for you to better understand your breast health.  Thermography is no-touch, no compression and no radiation.  It’s as easy as getting your picture taken!  Contact me to book your thermography scan to understand your risk before it’s too late.

Do something today your future self will thank you for.
