Colon Hydrotherapy FAQs

How long is an appointment?

Colon Hydrotherapy appointments are generally 30-40 minutes long. We allow an hour to get you comfortable in advance of the procedure and to complete your appointment. After the procedure you'll have time to use the toilet in the room.

Will I get dependent on colon hydrotherapy?

The process we use is the gravity fed method, which means there's no pressure (unlike the pressurized systems). Since your body is under gravity 24 hours a day, you're used to it! Gravity-fed colon hydrotherapy can actually tone your colon and bring it back to its natural state. Most of us have either an atonic (stretched) or spastic (too skinny) colon (aka large intestine), neither of which delivers a good state of health. While some other methods may cause dependency, the gravity method does not. Our goal is actually to reshape your colon and improve your health so you may need colon hydrotherapy less frequently. Most clients find that a regular cadence of colon hydrotherapy sessions keeps them feeling their best.

What is the session like?

This is colon irrigation, not a cleanse, not an enema. We use the Wood Gravitational Method, which is a discreet, closed system. The procedure involves an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon of poisons, gas, accumulated fecal matter, mucus, parasites and undigested foods. There's little to no discomfort and no pressure, just a steady gentle flow in and out of water in the colon. Abdominal massage is used to stimulate the colon and help promote your natural peristalsis. Purified, filtered water is used at a temperature controlled by the colon hydrotherapist and can help the colon recover it's natural shape tone and peristaltic wave action. Each client uses a single-use disposable tube and speculum. You'll lie comfortably on the table, clothed from the waist up and covered with a sheet from the waist down.

Why should I worry about my colon health?

When the colon is clean and functioning properly, we experience better health and well being. When our colon is full of waste, toxins and is congested with stagnant wastes, poisons back up into our system and pollute our inner environment. This is called autointoxication which literally means "self poisoning".

What are the benefits of colon hydrotherapy?

Colonics offer relief from a variety of issues caused by impacted and putrefactive fecal matter, such as: Fatigue, Headaches, Gas, Irritability, Skin Conditions, Cold Extremities, and Low Energy, Constipation, Diarrhea. Often, your sense of well being is improved with regular colon irrigations. Colonics can make you feel lighter and more energetic and the body can learn to assimilate food in the colon and better defend itself against disease. Many serious diseases may be averted through this gentle, sterile, scientific method. Not only do you remove toxic waste from your body, you'll increase absorption of nutrients in your body. Colonics are a key factor in restoring the body's natural balance and good health.

What is "regular" when it comes to pooping?

If we eat three meals a day, we should be pooping 3x a day -- about 20 minutes after each meal. Your poop should be about 6" long, smooth and tapered and about 2-3" in diameter. If you think you poop enough, consider how much food you eat each day. If you were to set aside a separate exact serving of that food for an entire week that's about 2/3 of what you'd poop PLUS 1/3 additional volume from mucus and body matter. You should be pooping out out at least what you put in. However, even if you're pooping 3x a day, you can still have gut issues. When we eat foods in the standard American diet, we eat a lot of bad fats and grease. That fat and grease actually builds up and leaves a coating on the inner colon, eventually building up and reducing the space from which our waste can escape. Colonics can help. Even healthy eaters find that regular colon hydrotherapy improves their health and wellness, keeping the body free of built up toxins and excess intestinal matter.

How often can I get a colonic?

It's safe to get a gravity-fed colonic every 24 hours. For most, however, that's not necessary. Overall, the number of treatments varies with the individual and his/her condition. It can take a series of colonics to loosen and moisten older, accumulated fecal matter. It's suggested you do 2-3 colonics closer together (i.e within a few weeks) to begin the detoxification process and get things "moving". Once the colon is clean, it's advisable to have a colonic every 1-2 months to maintain.

At what age can I start getting colonics?

Colonics can be performed on anyone over the age of 10. Anyone under the age of 18 must have the presence of an adult to get a colonic.

How do I know if I need a colonic?

One of the first signs you need a colonic is lack of regular and complete eliminiation. You should have a bowel movement about 20 minutes after each meal. This elimination should be relatively easy and and quick. Other symptoms may include: backaches, headaches, fatigue, skin problems, irritability, gas, bloating, insomnia, irritability, inflammation, frequent illness, hard stool, a lot of effort required to eliminate, diarrhea, body odor and bad breath. There are many more signs, but these are some of the most common. If you consume the Standard American Diet, you're a candidate for intestinal cleansing. Even if you believe you consume a healthy diet, past dietary variations and exposure to pollutants and environmental toxins will build up in the body, also making you a candidate for colonics.

Can I get a colonic if I'm pregnant?

If you've been getting regular colon hydrotherapy, we're happy to perform this procedure on you. However, if this is your first colonic and you're pregnant, it's our policy to require a doctor's prescription to have the colonic performed.

What's in the water that's used during the session?

Nothing! We use only filtered water filtered with a carbon filter. It's my policy that nothing is added to the water for any of the services, even if the client makes a special request.

How many sessions will I need?

While we can get a considerable amount of toxins and waste out during one treatment, most client benefit from more than one session. We offer packages for sessions at your first appointment and making a recommendation based on your state of health and your first procedure. Most clients initially get the best results from a series of 4 sessions in 2 weeks or a series of 7 sessions in 3-4 weeks.

Are there health concerns that would prohibit me from getting colon hydrotherapy?

We require an online intake form be completed in advance of your first appointment so that we may evaluate your state of health. Some potential clients may not be candidates for colon hydrotherapy and some may require a doctor's prescription. When we confirm your first appointment, we'll send the online intake form for your completion and our evaluation.
